Home Office: Organize your wallet and shred the out dated cards

Published by debcook under organize Edit This

Zero Balance cash cardsOrganization has been on my mind all day. I have the knowledge that I live less organized than I want to due to lack of time – not an excuse – simply a fact. One of my 2009 resolutions is to carve out at least two hours per week to re-group.

One place that I have meant to organize is my wallet. Sure, that may sound a bit silly but I assure you that it is not. No less than six Wal-Mart gift cards were taking up space. I hesitated to try to use them at the store for a couple of reasons. Some of the cards to not swipe well so I did not feel trusting when told the balances were zero.

I sat down this evening and called on each one of them. Most had a zero balance but there was one with over eight dollars left on it – well worth my time.

There are other gift cards hanging around in my wallet as well. One is for Lowe’s and five others for restaurants. The next thing I need to organize is my schedule in order to make time to go shopping and dining.

Once I got past the gift cards I realized that one of my credit cards was expired and that I had not activated the new one. Job one for tomorrow.

Onto the insurance cards – I have two – one is an updated card but I cannot tell the difference so either I need to make a phone call to the insurance company or just hang onto them until I need to use one. I am sure that the pharmacy or the doctor’s office will tell me if I try to use a non-valid card.

I bet if you open your wallet you will see that a little organization is called for. These are the little things that can be taken care of when you have a few free minutes. (Be sure to shred those cards so that they do not temp someone to steal your identity) Is getting organized one of your 2009 resolutions?
