Home Office: End of the year No need to wait

Published by debcook at 8:51 pm under organize Edit This

As this year runs out of time I find that I too am feeling squeezed. All of a sudden there are so many things to do. Just after the glass ball drops and 2009 begins reports come due, employees want their W-2s and that mound of paper work gets even bigger.

I try to prepare but it is impossible to be completely ready. The end of the year projects cannot be started until the end of the year. The most that can be done is to keep all paperwork in order. Wait and hurry up.

There are some things that can be accomplished before the last day of the year.

· Catch up on your bank reconciliations
· Gather up medical bills paid out-of-pocket
· Pay any bills such as property taxes that fall due immediately after the New Year
· File paperwork that is lying around and prepare new file folders for the New Year

Once the New Year gets here you can expand on your organization for tax time.

· Watch for tax related statements such as from banks, mortgage companies and investments
· Fill out information forms for your accountant and list financial details that will speed up the process.

Every year I say that I will be ready and every year I find that I am not. The best I can do is to try to be better than last year. Awareness and perseverance is the key.
