Home Office: Portable weather station can cut a work day short

Published by debcook under Living Edit This

Today was a beautiful winter day. At the highest I believe it was 72 degrees with a light breeze. However, late this afternoon the temperature dropped to a mere 32 degrees. This made me think of the times I have left work early because reports of inclement weather moving in. Sometimes it was necessary and sometimes it was a waste of time.

Portable weather stations are good for just that reason. Listening to the weather on the radio does not always give you the most accurate reading on the situation. An atomic clock with a weather station is more likely to give you the most timely weather information.

A portable weather station works on a wireless basis. You do not need to run wires from the inside to the outside. The readings are sent to the weather station by a small unit placed outside. Battery power keeps both inside and outside devices running and synced with each other.

There are so many brands and models it would be impossible to tell you about each one. A quick trip to your favorite search engine would give you a lot of ideas after entering terms such as “portable weather station”, “atomic clock with weather station” or “wireless weather station”.

La Crosse and Honeywell are common names that you will see most often. They both offer great features that include:

· Atomic clock
· Weather Station
· Projection of time and weather onto the wall or ceiling
· Weather forecasting
· Ice warning alarm

When we get busy and involved in a project the weather is probably the last thing on our mind. A portable weather station could end up reminding us that there are some things that should cut work short. Getting home before bad weather gets worse or staying in when weather is bad could save both life and property.
