Home Office: Shared data file extensions should meet needs of many
Software is an important feature of our computer usage. Having the correct software for the task can mean the difference between success and failure.
Part of having the correct software to some is the ability for others to have access to the files. For example, Microsoft Word documents cannot be read by anyone that cannot open a .doc file. A QuickBooks report cannot be opened and read by someone not running QuickBooks software. You get my point.
· Anyone needing to keep track of numbers probably needs spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel.
· Anyone needing to write letters or reports probably need office software such as Microsoft Word.
· Anyone needing to design brochures, business cards or flyers probably need software such as Microsoft Publisher.
I’m sure you are thinking by now that I am partial to Microsoft software. I admit I use these programs but I want to make the point. There are particular software programs available for specific tasks.
This is no different than gaming software. It would be impossible to play a card game like Solitaire by using action computer game software such as WOW (World of Warcraft).
Choose the correct software for your particular needs. If others need to access your information use familiar software that is readily available to most users.
