Home Office: Digital files are as important as those in the file drawer

Published by debcook under organize Edit This

The home office is filled to the brim with important data. It is important to keep it all organized but do you give enough thought to keeping it safe?

Most data in my home office resides on my computer. Actually I should say my computers. When it is convenient my laptop takes front and center – but when I am in a hurry I use the desktop.

It is really irrelevant which computer I use most – both of them have to be backed up regularly. I am pretty good about it, but I am just paranoid enough to require more than one back up. That is where my lack of extra time comes in.

I discovered the “Clickfree” not long ago. It is a small external backup drive but it is unique from others that I own. This one has 160GB storage. On its own that is not too impressive. It is what you can do with the 160GB that is.

By simply plugging the “Clickfree” into a USB port on your computer your files are all automatically backed up. Don’t stop there. Plug the “Clickfree” into another computer and it will back it up also. This can go on until you backup up to 10 separate computers. Of course the number of computers will depend on how much data is on each. Again, the storage is 160GB.

My “Clickfree” is going to get a workout soon. Not only does it backup data on a computer – it will restore that same data to the same computer or it will restore the data to a new computer.
