Home Office: Use walls as storage space
A home office typically has four walls. In a small home office those walls can provide a lot of storage space. Don’t forget the backside of doors and the wall space behind the open door.
Large templates or other oversized papers that are difficult to store. A large heavy-duty plastic bag can easily be hung from a couple of hooks attached to the backside of a door. Entry doors and closet doors alike work well.
Bulletin boards hold papers, pictures and business cards. A bulletin board can be large, small, cork, fabric or metal. They can be decorative or utilitarian. Tacks, push pins, ribbons and magnets can be used to secure the objects.
Wall pockets can be used to hold small home office items. Electronic gadgets, pens, pencils, remote controls, headphones and a varied collection of office supplies can be placed in the small clear plastic pockets.
Shelves are a more obvious wall storage solution. Some shelves are utilitarian and others are decorative. When bookshelves will not fit single shelves usually will. Floating shelves are popular because they take up little space and they look better than shelves with brackets holding them up. Shelves that fit onto a rail system can be adjusted and work very well inside a closet.
Regardless of the storage solutions used their placement is most important. Items used regularly should be hung close to the workspace. Seldom used items can be placed in more obscure areas of the home office.
