Home Office - Small(ish) desks are hard to find
2008-10-06 20:36:08
Compact desks are hard to find. Most office desks measure 52″ or longer and at least 28″ deep. Some home offices cannot accommodate a desk this large. A few inches here and a few inches there can make the difference whether a desk will fit in a given space. This issue is magnified when more than one desk is needed in a home office.
I bring this up because I searched high and low before buying my desk. The measurements above match the desk I am sitting at right now. This was actually one of the smallest desks I came across and it has wheels and a glass top. In other words it has most of the features that I refused to settle on.
Window-shopping on Amazon is something I enjoy. I came across a desk that I may have purchased if I was still in the market. If you are looking for a slightly smaller desk you might take a look at it. The OSP Designs TRI2548G desk has features that include:
- Smaller size - 48″ Wide and 26″ Deep. It is taller than my desk at 30″. My desk is 28.5″. I am not sure that I would like the extra height.
- The desktop is a piece of glass that “floats” above the oversized keyboard drawer/tray.
- A sparse wooden base that keeps it from looking too heavy.
- There are holes that help you tame the cables.
I think that you may agree with me that finding a small desk is not an easy task. Most are either too small or too large. I like this desk because the desktop is freed up with the keyboard drawer/tray located underneath. That may be the reason it is a bit taller - so your knees are not cramped. (Since most desk chairs have height adjustments the desk height would probably not be too much of an issue)
What size is the desk in your home office? If you had a choice would it be smaller or larger? How many desks need to fit into your home office?
