Home Office - Home Sweet Home Office

If you own a small business you need a place to work at home. Commonly we think of that place as a home office. The words are not very original but they are very descriptive. It is not hard to form a picture in your mind – see the desk, the computer, the printer, the files and the papers strewn all over.

No one said that a home office has to be tidy. In fact very few are tidy.

That is why the kitchen table is not a good place for a home office. What about the family? What about your business? It’s not a good idea to short-change either.

The kitchen table is the one place that the entire family gets together at the same time. Family members catch up on what has been happening with other family members. Laughing together and eating together will happen less and less as the home office moves in.

Your business deserves better too. It has needs also. Paying bills on time is difficult when you cannot find them. Customer invoices fall behind when paperwork is not organized. A kitchen table just does not have adequate space.

A home office needs to be a dedicated space whether it is in a closet or in an extra room of the house. You need to be able to walk away from your work without putting everything away. Originality is not as important as functionality.
