Home Office - Setting up for a color evaluation
What colors are used in your home office? Are you aware that the color of the walls, floor and furnishings can make you productive, uninspired or even sick? It’s true. I will describe my home office and we will go from there to see what it says about my personality. Over the next few days I will talk about which colors convey which feelings.
First of all it is important to determine whether you are using color for your own preference or whether it is used to motivate others. Mostly I talk about a typical home office but this time I want to expand the discussion to home offices that may serve as a workspace for an employee or two as well.
There are so many variances of colors and each one can affect you in a different way. This will be a multi-part post so before you break down and redesign your home office maybe you should wait a day or two.
I disclose to you that my home office is a red-ish maroon (Ralph Lauren River Rock paint) and three walls have walnut stained tongue and groove paneling (wainscoting) a little over half way up from the floor. The ceiling is white and before you ask – yes it is a “popcorn” ceiling. I see so many people (especially those on television) turn up their nose at this style ceiling. If I were doing an entire makeover I might consider changing it but for now it stays.
In case you did not know - the popcorn ceiling serves two purposes. One is the ease of finishing the ceiling and the other is the acoustic property that it provides. . In fact they are actually called acoustic ceilings – not popcorn ceilings.
My floor is concrete. I took the carpet up and threw it in the trash. I cleaned the concrete and I am very happy with it. I may install bamboo someday but I not sure. The concrete is easy to clean, I like the feel and I love the look.
My desk has a glass top and the base is aluminum colored stainless steel. My stainless steel shelving is on wheels and I have a wall unit that resembled stainless steel baskets. I have few accessories but the ones I have are glass and metal for the most part. My desk chair is also on wheels. It has arms and is covered in a maroon fabric.
Tomorrow I will break the colors of my home office down to see what they say about me. Does my home office sound similar to yours?
