Home Office - Close to paperless
Scanning papers into my computer is the most successful way to keep my home office in order. No file drawers needed – well maybe just one.
I keep as many important papers as I can in a safety deposit box but the space is very limited. I have a fire safe with a file drawer which contains tax returns and other important papers such as some insurance policies.
I realize that a fire safe will only protect papers for a short period of time in the event of a fire and they are not water resistant in the least. That is why I scan these papers and keep at least two copies of the digital files on DVD. The DVD is tucked away safely in my safety deposit box. I’d rather have a copy than no document at all.
All other less important paper is scanned, burned onto a DVD. One copy is here at home and the other is in the safety deposit box. There is a pattern here.
My scanner is one of my favorite devices. I may never have a paperless home office but I bet I have less paper in mine than most of you have in yours.
