Home Office - Emergency Plans
Emergency preparedness should be top of mind especially during this time of year. Most will automatically think about food, water and generators. That is not exactly what I am thinking of however.
Your home office should be headquarters for paperwork preparedness. There are certain papers that are very important to never leave behind when you have to leave your home under the threat of a disaster.
• Birth Certificates
• Insurance Policies
• Wills
• Identification
• List of medications
• Photos
I know that it is not feasible to spend much time rounding up “stuff” when you have to get out quick – but that is why you need to have a way to grab and run.
Many of these documents can be scanned and burned to a CD. Keep one copy at home and the store the original documents in a safety deposit box.
I have a special box that contains my CD and copies of papers that I might need in a hurry. Digital photos are so much easier to take with you so I have scanned every photo I have. I have the original photos that can be enjoyed hands but I do not want to take the chance of loosing them forever.
This is just a short list of ideas that I hope you will consider. It is only too late after the fact. This is such an important subject I would appreciate knowing how you prepare.
