Home Office - Universal docking station tames cables

Published by debcook at 8:57 pm under organize Edit This

With all of my talk about organizing your home office I have taken a good look at mine. There is always room for improvement and my desk top is getting crowded. I have a solution. I need a universal docking station.

My desktop gets cluttered because I come and go so much. I can hardly sit down for more than an hour before I have to pack up my laptop and some paperwork again. I work more in my virtual office than I do in my home office.

When I am in my home office I prefer to see less clutter. I prefer less time spent unpacking and packing. To set up my laptop first I plug in the power cable. Then I spend time trading out USB devices such as my printer, my scanner, my external backup drive and my USB Flash drive between my two USB ports.

A universal docking station would organize my cables and I would only have to plug in one USB cable to my laptop. It would save time and space while charging any USB device. The “Targus Universal Laptop Docking Station – with video” (ACP50US), has four USB 2.0 ports. Two of the four USB ports are always on even when the laptop is turned off or disconnected all together.

I always have a portable backup drive or flash drive plugged into my laptop while working. If I leave my home office to eat dinner or to just take a break I feel the need to shut down the drive because I do not want to take the chance of losing data. Not a big deal but it does take time. This Targus universal docking station would save that time. An always on USB port would alleviate the need to shut down my backup drive.

My theory of organization is all about saving time and space. I am excited to be able to save both with one device.
